Tough to say whether the electrical work or the fuel lines took longer, but I do know the fuel system was not cheap! All aluminum lines and AN-6 fittings.

The rear end is now ready for the powertrain... everything that can/should be done is buttoned up. The cam sync sensor wiring and injector harness wires have to wait and can be seen in the front left corner of the engine bay. All the other sensor wiring is harnessed and ready to plug in:

Once I get front suspension parts back from the powder coater's, I can get the car on all fours and proceed with the nuptials!

Mmmm, I've missed this! Looks like I'm just arriving at the punchline.

What hose are you using from tank to catch can? I can't find one that flexible.

That is a factory hose... 911-107-393-01... the one that breathes the oil tank to the right side of an early CIS airbox. I think I was able to get the original version (911-107-393-00) when I first set this up way back when. It worked unmodified, I suspect the -01 could do the same.

Mechanicals have gone well save one snag on the front oil cooler stuff. Put that on the back burner and focusing on the top side engine bay electrical. I did so much prior to engine install, have done a bunch more now that the motor is in, and STILL have a bunch to go :(! Don't take this EFI thing lightly if you jump off the bridge... it is a lot of work. Gotta be patient!

Pretty hard to tell by the pictures, but I am down to the cam sync sensor run, shortening the O2 sensor lead, and building the fuel injector harness:

It took most of December to get all the engine wiring finished up. Finally, finally time to install the battery and see how things look.

I already knew the fuel pump wiring was all correct, so just gotta turn the key and hope for the best :rolleyes:...

RESULTS: Only one tiny leak presented itself, but was easily fixed. What a relief! LOTS of custom work required just to see this number register on the gauge:

No real drama to speak of, which of course is a good thing when you run a new motor for the first time. No leaks to report after the 20 minute run-in. Awesome to see the gauges doing their thing:

There will be plenty of EFI tuning to do later, but for now I had to dump the oil. I already can't wait to hear that R muffler again and rev it a little more. All the parts are finally in hand to complete the front oil cooler setup, so that is the next big item on the to-do list...

Looking great Doug! It won't be long now before she's roadworthy. I put over 5000kms (3000miles) on my 68 this summer with nary a hiccup. Sooo much fun to drive !!

Well, I am on the fence about it. I decided to make that line myself because I had everything I needed from the rest of the fuel system build. I did NOT want a big braided line with 90 degree end fittings across there, mostly due to looks (wanted something cleaner). The 5052 aluminum line I made is nice and stiff because of the hump in it to clear the fan housing. I might clamp it to the shroud studs anyway.

Another option I thought about was to have Len make me a rubber line with 90's on the ends and clamp it to the top of the fan shroud at the 2 studs.

Thoughts/concerns?

regarding the aluminum line: It looks nice, but there is no give going point to point solid tubing. I would prefer to see at least one end with a fuel rated piece of hose between the carb and the line. also if you fasten it to the shroud, let it float in the locating clamps.

The constant expansion and contraction, of the solid tube is a recipe for a failure in the future. Full on race cars, that use solid tubing are always being taken apart and inspected, so you can't use those as examples to follow

Will the hinges clear the filter stacks?

R hinges are external on Doug's car. See pics below of other R's. Besides that if Doug was using stock hinges, those would clear the PMO air cleaners too

Thank you Dave. That is the issue that had me on the fence. In the long run I was leaning towards a custom E-85 rated high pressure hose from Len with 2 Adel clamps on the fan housing studs acting as guides only. I spent so much time/energy/money on the fuel system I just wanted to get on with it!

Can you believe it... it is finally getting close! You have been along on the ride from almost the beginning and it is much appreciated!!!!

I like the line - a nice touch. Definitely needs some clamps, and the point on vibration/cracking is valid. As long as it's well supported and not under stress (ie do the ends align perfectly with the fuel rails) I think it would be ok.

February turned out to be front oil cooler install month for me. Pretty much all factory SC/Carrera vintage parts except for Chuck’s high clearance lines in the back and some custom bracket work up front. Always “fun” to do this on a car that has never had a front cooler :rolleyes:. This install put up more of a fight than usual because of parts availability issues, fitment issues with my chassis, items damaged in shipping, undercoating touch ups, fender painting, blah blah blah. Very glad it was finished and pleased with the results! A lot of us have been to this rodeo before so I’ll just show you the answer (from front to back):
