Value of a 73 911 T
Contemplating whether or not not to sell. She was purchased with intentions of a future project with my son, who is now 4 ½.
Basics: 1973 911 T with S trim 2.4 with MFI 915 transmission Flat six Fuchs are still in my possession but i installed 7x16 Fuchs Spare matching fiberglass front fenders Spare pair of doors She runs fine but has some rust, bottoms of doors and front fenders behind the wheels. The interior needs a recondition. The reason I'm posting in Technical is I'm trying to decide what to do from here, keep her, part her out or just sell her. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Keep it. By the time your son is old enough for the project it will be worth doing.

I say keep it as well. I would have been really warped if there was a 911 waiting on me to work on everyday after school.

Rust repair is not for the faint of heart. And believe me, after a few minutes behind a wire brush, kids get faint awfully fast. Ask me how I know. In any event, finding things that can safely be done by little hands is the key. Re-spraying the emergency brake handle? Yes. Welding new door skin? Not so much.

If you don't take care of the rust now, there won't be anything to work on when your boy comes ofm age.

As a kid my dad and I would do all the maintenance on his van together....I was only a tool runner. But today I have a 73 T as well that I did some pretty major rust repair and I love picking up a wrench.
A buddy of mine had a 69 Le Mans passed down to him at the age of 13. We couldn't drive it but it was a hoot tearing it apart, reassembling it and seeing if we could it to run again. By the time he was 17 his Le Mans had the Pontiac Long Block still in it but we had changed everything else out, heads, cam, carb...etc. It was quite a runner.

That would be a great project for my 14 year old who's asking me about cars. And we're in North Jersey. Just kidding!!! It's great that you're thinking way ahead. Good luck whichever way you decide. I think it's good for you either way (sell or keep).

I had the same thoughts on an early 911 I had (have). My son was 2 at the time, now at 8 he not only appreciates me keeping it but also knows how to do the basics on his dirt bike

well no one has dared to say what shes worth and arguably the price could range any were from 7k to 20k in this condition.....with what you have describe probobly more to 7-10k especially with were the market is at.....i have a 72t 2.4 mfi that i am in the middle of restoring and between motor and body i am approaching 40k.....without the original cost of the car....about 8,000...i do look at it is an investment and unless you just have no choice to sell then keep her......my father made the same decision 30 years ago on his G.T. 500 shelby and decided to dump her.....but i guess i cant blame him he did get 1,200.00 bucks for her....boy wish he got the e-mail!!!

I'll never forget the sad look on the 14 year olds face when I bought my 73.5 from his father. It had a fair amount of rust. I enjoy working on the car, but it is a lot of work. Not for everyone. It still costs a lot to keep even doing most of the work myself. It will never sell for what it costs to repair, but I love it. rogman is about right with the pricing. Probably 7 to 15k. Rust is always worse than you think once you start stripping.

Keep it unless your hard up for space.
Wrap the exposed side in bubble wrap and throw a tarp over it

Keep the T, and sell the TR-6. It's a better project for you and your son, and better future value. TR-6 values haven't kept pace with longhoods in the last several years.
And this from a fellow TR-6 owner...
