Rear caliper rebuild
Hi,
I'm rebuilding the rear calipers of my 1982 SC with Stainless pistons. For the front calipers, I have a drawing in the Bentley manual where I can see how to install the pistons to get the correct 20° angle. I found no instructions for the rear calipers. How should I install the pistons to get the correct 20° angle on the cut out? Thanks. André |

I just "eyeballed" them. You can get within 5 degrees or so with just your eyes.

Do a search on the forum for 20 degree tool or something like that.
Basically, you get a sheet of carboard and a protractor then trace a 20 degree angle with a pencil and cut it out using scissors. And there you go... ![]()

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Because English is not my native language, my question was not very clear. I know how to fabricate and use the 20° template for the front brakes, but what to do for the rear brakes? Should I just follow the direction on rotation, and where the disc enters the caliper, position the piston in the 20° position? Or is it different? Thanks, André |

Andre,
Are the calipers ATE or GIRLING? ATE promotes the 20 deg set-up but I think GIRLING does not? It also depends on the position of the caliper vs. rotation of the disc. The 20 deg setting is intended to counter-act the clamping-force wanting to distort the pads into uneven wear.
