Gas lid and truck lid

On my 85 911 I notice that to close the front trunk lid I must reach under to the latch and move over the latch lever so the lid will go down. Then I can press it shut. Should I have to do this or is my latch faluty? Also, on my gas lid it is the same. To close the cover I must reach back in the car and pull the little knob so the latch can clear and I can close the cover in place. Is this the way it is ? Or should they just push down and close. Thank you, Nick

hood shocks?

have not had your problem--my latch is easy to close, replace both shocks together (reasonable as a pair and the hood stays up) and verify latch is not crooked and hood alignment is not out of wack. are the hinges a concern?

Check the alignment of the front lid's latch. That shouldn't happen. Pull the two plastic plugs and use an Allen wrench to loosen and adjust.

My 85 has the same problem with the fuel door... Have not looked into its inner workings yet.

I can't speak for your trunk, but about once a year I put a little stick grease on both my gas door and oil door (72) strikers. It makes them much easier to close!

My 80's gas door is the same way ... just roll your window down when you fuel up ....

No, you should simply push it down. Try adding some lube, maybe they are dry. I would clean it first of any rust.

Hood latch

The latch I'm talking about is the release safety latch on the left side looking forward. I understand that you pull the lever in the car and then go to the front and push the left saftey latch to clear and then open the hood. to close I must do the same thing...put my fingers in the latch and push the left saftey latch out of the way and then close the hood. I was just wondering if you had to pull that 1st latch out of the way every time? I looked at my top latch and I notice that the latch goes way over to the left and the only way to close the hood is to move that sucker out of the way with your fingers. Everything works, just wish you could just close the lid with one swoop. Nick

now do the same for the trunk latch. when closing spread both hands and press firmly to even out the weight distribution.

OK , I found the problem.. The top latch is either the wrong unit or I need another one from Pelican. The safety latch is turned (bent) very much to the left of the latch. Will not go down to the hole. Stops dead . I checked Pelican and it should be very much straight up and down. I need a new top latch. Problem solved. Thank you eveyone. Nick
