help, floorboards/carpet damp after rains

My 84 carrera coupe was sitting out in a rainstorm which lasted all week. Carpet was damp on passenger driver side only. I can't figure it out. Dry everywhere else. Do I need to unclog a drain? How can I tell if water is still sitting somewhere in the car? Didn't hear any water sloshing around while driving(had this issue before w/ convertible). Thanks in advance.

the search function would work excellent on this ????? try floor+wet

your sunroof channel drains are probably plugged, try clearing them with a piece of weed wacker line , if that doesn't work try a 14gauge or thicker wire with the end cut blunt. be careful if you have to go the wire route I think your car has the plastic drain tube in the body , don't remember when they switched from metal to plastic .........

Best of luck, the search will give you a little more detail .

rear drains, open deck lid, look at hinge, look to the outside about 4 inches and up 2 you will see a hole , put trimmer line in and push and turn.

front drains , open sunroof, get out of car, look in sunroof channel , hole about 1/4 inch around about three inches from the front corner of the sun roof, should come out at the hinge side of your door(leave door open to see it come out .........

and for goodness sake park inside ..............

I'd also check to be sure the drain hose is still connected from the fresh air inlet through the smuggler's box and out of the car. That was my problem--similar symptoms--until I ACTUALLY had a hose in place...

Thanks all. Will check on all of the above today. Wish there was a diagram though to make it easier to find.

And finally put wifeys blow dryer to good use last night. Was always wondering what that contraption was for.

& get under the car with a plastic probe and be sure the hose is not clogged

Good Luck

Quick question, if a drain is clogged, where does the runoff go? Or does it stay in the car?

Well--if its not connected at all, it'll run around behind the air blower cover and eventually down along the wiring behind the passenger's side floorboard, soaking the carpets.

If its clogged but doesn't have a hole, it should back up into the fresh air inlet plenum and might leak out through the same path as I described above. You might also check inside your smuggler's box to see if there's water outside the A/C box.
