911 Colors, most popular

I am looking for some information about paint colors that have been available for various years.

Does anyone know a good source that lists the colors available each year (preferably with samples)?

If you can help with this, you get extra points - I want to know the volume of cars shipped with each color, each year. Which colors have been most popular?

I am sure the most popular color has changed over the years.

The standard and special order colors as well as interior colors available each year are listed in "Original 911" by Peter Morgan.

For example in 77 the standard colors were: guards red (027), talbot yellow (106), continental orange (107), light yellow (117), ascot green (speedway, 258), arrow blue (305), bitter chocolate (408), black (700), grand prix white (908)

Unfortunately I don't see build numbers

I've been looking for colour charts for the forthcoming 2.7 Registery. I'm going to follow up a few Auto literature dealers. I'll keep you informed.
Peter Morgan's book is a great reference. My guess at the favorite colours of all time? Red, Silver, Black, in any order. Least popular? Lime Green, I bet, colour of my '75.

Chuck,
My guess would be that obtaining actual production numbers by color, by year, would be info potentially only available from the factory, if at all.

Mark Haab and Brett Johnson's highly detailed "1974 to 1989 911, 912E & 930 Authenticity Series" has pages of detailed information on standard and special order exterior colors by year, with paint codes, along with much specific interior code information. (There is also a prior volume on the '64 to '73 cars)

Its the most exhaustive volume that I know of for this type of info, but it doesn't have any breakdown of production numbers in the way you're looking for it broken down.

Perhaps PCNA in Atlanta could assist?

Good Luck.

I did a lot of research on this subject a few years ago.
The reason was that I needed to do a color change.

The advice I was given was for RESALE value only:
#1) Guards Red
#2) Black
#3) Silver
#4) White

Colors with the least resale value or desirability:
#1) Green
#2) Brown
#3) Yellow

Remember, this is not my opinion. I gathered this information from Porsche salesmen, mechanics, and paint shops.

My opinion? Unless you are painting the car specifically for resale paint it the color you like, it's your car.
