Proper Oil Plug Torque Settings

What is the consensus for proper torque settings for oil plugs? My owner's manual says 42nm for the tank plug and 70nm for the case plug, but a certain well-known recently released book states a setting of 42nm for both. What do other people say?

just tighten it up, where you think it's tight, and remember you're not magilla the gorilla. you have to get used to tightening things by hand, other than the important stuff like rod bolts, etc.

I agree with John. For things like oil drain plugs, that are easy to check for leaks, just tighten it up, and don't kill it.

You mean that the past 25 years of guessing on torque was in fact excellent experience, and the shiny new torque wrench I got for my birthday last week will be good for a paperweight?!!

I don't know if I'd use the 'just tighten it' approach on head studs, but otherwise, invaluable experience. Don't forget the torque wrench looks GREAT on your work bench.
