Cool Parking Light short FIXED!

OK, so last night I finally decided to try and fix the short that has plagued my drivers side parking lights all summer.

First, actually sit down and read the wiring diagram.
Second, understand the diagram (two Canadian's later) and realize that all the wiring from the front left actually get grounded at the same location (5 grounds to be exact), including the right side parking lights and the battery.
Third, use emery paper to polish up all connections.
Fourth, reassemble and presto, LIGHTS all around.

Question. What would one put on the connection to help prevent corrosion from re-occurring.

Well, the US military has been using Dow Corning silicone grease for corrosion prevention and other uses for 50+ years and it seems to work well in my experience of 35+ years! Vaseline also works, but only seems to last about 3 months in my experience, which requires a bit more rigorous schedule to keep things clean.

Thanks Warren.

I noticed that PP doesn't offer it, but I am assuming that any auto parts store would carry it. I'll look around here in Ontario.

I have been plagued by the same problem that involves the parking lights and the brake lights on the drivers side. Where on the car was the ground point that you found that contained five grounds? Sounds like I need to try the same approach you did.

Eric

Just in front of the battery, on the drivers side. Follow the ground from the battery, only about 8 inches long, it will attach to a threaded bolt (Ground G3 in Bentley SC book) with a 13mm nut. On this bolt is 5 seperate grounds attached:

From the book, I can trace these...
1. Battery Ground
2. Left Headlight
3. Left Parking Light
4. Left Side Marker Light
5. Left Front Turn Signal Light

Clean them all up and it may fix your problem.

Hope this helps.
