3.4 engine join Gruppe HC Hyper Carrera

Well is was mentioned in the I'm better than you thread that a few of us can't really join sides because.............. Well we are just better than the others. So taking the suggestion of our own gruppe to heart and the fact it is early in the morning, cold and snowing out. I came up with a name (hopefully not used already) and a gruppe.

I hear by declare Gruppe HC open for membership. This group is for those who got a little bored (get it) with the rest of the pack and decided to enlarge SmileWavy their experience.

I am sure that we too will shortly have extra large T-shirts, and perhaps oversized pit flags. We will need carbon fiber badges as metal would be just too heavy given the enormous size.

So efhughes, 88-diamondblue and all the others I know you are out there. As a side benefit if you also happen to do topless. You can get a dual membership and proudly claim Hyper C.R.A.P.

Join today before it is too late. Remeber world ends Dec of 2012.

Almost forgot why we are better

darth vader, your car is ready

88-diamondblue 02-07-2010 08:04 AM

Dave that car just looks mean. Can't wait to see it in person. Put me on the list for the HC3.4. Bigger is better:cool:

88-diamondblue 02-07-2010 08:12 AM

This is my 3.4 just about passed up an opportunity to post a shot

88-diamondblue 02-11-2010 09:31 PM

Who else out there have a 3.4? I know of a few of them and there are more than 2 of us.

JeremyD 02-12-2010 05:09 AM

I used to have one... do you have a retirement program??

gumba 02-12-2010 05:56 AM

Here's our '75 Carrera RS look street legal race car. 3.4 twin plug, 50 PMO's and a bunch of other stuff.

sprintamx 02-12-2010 06:39 AM

Sorry, no pics currently available . . .

3.4 single plug (JE Pistons), WebCam 20/21, Fabspeed cat by-pass and 1-in-2-out, SW Chip, AC delete, Fikse 17" wheels, "race" seats, other weight reduction efforts in progress . . .

2748 lbs as of the last corner balancing with 1/2 tank of gas.

Anyone know how I can remove those impact shock tubes in the rear . . .?

Oh yeah . . . 1988 Diamond Blue Targa! What else could you want for a DE/Track Day car?

Aaron

Here's another 3.4, although not quite as hyper as yours. I'm starting my own gruppe - Gruppe KOHC (Kind of Hyper Carrera)

Or I'll just join yours and wear a beanie.

Jeremy, what happened to your car?

Jgordon 02-12-2010 06:57 AM

forgot the car.

Sold it - sadly - but it went to a good home...

But I'm the hunt for a replacement. Really mostly to do with safety. It was too nice to put a cage in it. Cabriolets tend to fold if wrecked. I've had two oh Shyte moments at the track this past year - and had my gallbladder removed emergency (and at first they thought I either had liver disease or pancreatic cancer) I can't afford to keep it AND have a track car so my intent is to find a decent car and safety it up!

On a side note is there anything that's as hyper as dfink's car?

HelmetHead 02-12-2010 07:14 AM

Here's my 3.4 going together...its 7:1 compression, but thats what turbo's are for right :D

Jgordon 02-12-2010 07:23 AM

Wow man, sorry to hear about that, but glad to see you're in one piece (or at least all the important bits).

Your car was/is beautiful and was in part the inspiration for my build.

Looking forward to seeing what you do next.

34Carrera 02-12-2010 07:55 AM

I have an 87 3.4 Carrera:
  • Venetian Blue
  • Autothority Mass Air Flow Sensor
  • Extrude Honed Intake Manifolds
  • Bored Throttle Body
  • Ported Heads
  • Titanium Springs & Retainers
  • 3.4 Andial Mahle P&Cs
  • Custom Cams
  • ARP Rod Bolts
  • Boattailed Engine Case
  • Lightened Flywheel
  • Cat Bypass
  • Bursch Exhaust

naparsei 02-12-2010 10:06 AM

Can I be a Hyper Carrera if I have a 3.4 in my longhood?

dfink 02-12-2010 12:23 PM

If it's a 3.4 then its in. If its a 3.6 it will look kinda funny with the HC3.4 badges.

Perhaps instead of the overdone grill badge we should have a nice engraved brass plate that would go on the dash.

Someone mention 3.4? I had this engine custom built a few years ago. 3.4 Mahle's, Extrudehone intakes, bored throttle body, Steve Wong custom chip, Twin plugged, Close ratio regeared G-50. (Yeah, I spent too much:()

They still sell custom 3.4 badges here on Pelican also.

I like the the 3.4 badge.

Jagshund 02-12-2010 04:44 PM

Hmmm. Do water cooled 3.4s count? And can it be sitting under/near the car rather than installed in it?

trfleming 02-12-2010 05:19 PM

a photo of my 3.4. like Harold's, it's street legal. well it's licensed anyway. :)

Plus these:

= Membership?

Although, technically speaking as of this moment I've got a 3.2. The engine is coming out next Saturday and my fun begins. Picked up my gaskets and some RSR wire holders from Henry @ Supertec yesterday. The last "big" expense is a call to Mr. Wong for a new chip.

Sigh........... if only that were true:):):)

efhughes3 02-13-2010 11:43 AM

I hope. I'm gonna have $8k into this upgrade on top of the 10 I spent 2 years ago on the rebuild.

But then once you have that nice engine there is the.......
wouldn't a new shifter be nice
perhaps I should upgrade the suspension now that I have more power
I really like the look of those fiberglass bumpers.
yada yada yada.................

gumba 02-14-2010 05:59 AM

If your pushing 300 h.p. or more you should plan on getting your trans beefed up. The stock gears won't handle the torque for very long.

That's why the thousands I've spent on brakes and suspension will come in handy. Ruby is fully developed in those areas......pretty much at the end of the spectrum for a street car. It only takes an additional $30K to turn a $10K car into a $13K car. ;)

I've lightened her a couple of hundred lbs, but haven't gone to any FG body parts yet. But then again, none of that has any bearing on the expenditure for the 3.4 upgrade.

efhughes3 02-14-2010 10:58 AM

Actually, with some quick addition in my head, it only takes an additional $35-40K to turn a $10K Targa into a $13K Targa.

I guess I could join.....

Can an 84' Carrera with a 3.6L be an HC? :)

THIS IS AN AMAZING PHOTO!

One of the best I've seen. Do you have any information on how it was done?

Thanks dude - courtesy of Jamie Lipman (James Lipman +++ Photographer United Kingdom)

Essentially me following a Volvo 'station wagon' at around 35mph, tail open, Jamie strapped in and hanging out the back with his face (and camera) hanging about 3 inches from the tarmac

Mad man personified!

He has a nice writeup in 911 & Porsche World on that beauty.
