brake pistons stuck
I am completely rebuilding the brakes on my '70T. Hard lines, flexible lines, new MC and rebuilding the callipers
The pistons are stuck and I can't pop them out. Callipers off the car and there are no lines that I can use to put hydraulic pressure on the pistons I tried WD40 overnight as well as grip pliers and compressed air Any other recommendations? Thank you Rafik |

Grease gun trick, but air should have worked. wd-40 is a lubricant, if rusted you need something like kroil (to help).

You could reattach them to the car, bleed the system, block all but one caliper piston from moving and push the brake pedal to pop each one out. Time consuming, but without a homemade bracket with a bug master cylinder, brake hose and pump handle held in a vise, what can you do?

Try this one, he sells a kit. Air did it for me last week, but yours may be different.

Get bleed screws in every hole. Fill the caliper with water. Squeeze it in a vice, one piston at a time.
Only works if the pistons are somewhat out of their bores. |

That should work if you bolt it down to your bench. clean up one piston and bore and reinstall, then clamp it and pop the other one out.

My next (and hopefully last) question, is it better to reuse the original pistons with new seals or snap the pin in the caliper and use the new pistons I got from Bigg Red?
Old pistons look ok, see picture ![]() Last edited by karmannghia60; 10-06-2016 at 06:25 PM.. |
