Can I glass bead this exhaust?

I'm just looking at cleaning it up a bit. Will glass beading help or increase rusting possibilities? thanks Doug

use navel jelly first to remove rust. that should get most or all of it. i'd probably soda blast anything rough after that. Soda blasting will actually prevent rust from returning for a while. Maybe use a high temp flat paint to protect it in the future. I think mine is painted either grey or black.

Hey Doug, it looks to be stainless, may be 321 or 400 series (if magnetic 400) the outlet looks a bit corroded but also the hottest spot on it (inlet & outlet within a few inches) my though ti yes you can,
BUT
What are your goals just a clean up for now,?? Also you should be able to shead more light on it, with more info, I think I can see a part number or a manufacturer, that would be a big plus for determining materials.

Regards

One of the problems of blasting it is they tend to warp so go lightly, or paint. There hard to see after installed so......why bother?

I sandblasted my exhaust and VHT clear coated it. The clear has turned a slight bronze color and has not burned off even at the exhaust flanges..
This is how it started

Sandblasted and baked. The euro pre-muffler is not sandblasted or painted

Vapor blasting is also an alternative with less chance of distortion and also gives a finer finish. Used extensively in the aircraft industry.
