Rewiring US spec turn signals for Euro?

I have a 72 911T.
I need to rewire a set of US turn signals (all orange) to Euro (orange turn signal and white standing light). Anyone able and willing to walk me thru this - or better yet show me a link where it has been described before?

Can't be done with a combined turn/running light that takes a twin-filament bulb, as the running light goes through the lens as well and is thus yellow, just like the flasher.

If you used the so-called "Euro" clear lens (which only Ricers have in Europe) and a yellow bulb, the running light would still be yellow, not white. If you used a clear bulb, the flasher would be white as well as the running light. Probably illegal everywhere.

If you really want white parking/city lights, use the Bosch H4's (may not be period-correct for a '72) and wire up the city lights. Just add a short adapter harness to power the city lights to run both US and RoW running lights, or simply use the existing wiring for the Euro city lights.

At least on my '77, the headlight harness seems to be universal - e.g. the same whether it's a RoW or US car, so the parking/city light feed comes into the buckets and terminates in a spade. On a US car, it is connected there to the US running light harness, on a RoW car it would connect to the city lights in the headlamp.

I know about the trick with the H4's and was planning to do that as a last resort.
I would prefer to go the original correct route if possible.
I know a factory trained mechanic who specializes in Electrics and am going to pay him a visit today.

I did the conversion a few years ago and it is a bit involved. You will need to buy two bulb holders, a couple of 12V bulbs for your white running lights with similar output as a side marker lamp. You will need to fabricate holders for the bulbs which will align with the lines inside the housings and which conform with the curvature of the new lenses - this takes a bit of trial and error - I bought some flashing material which is easy to cut and bend (Home Depot). How you anchor your new mounts is up to you (I believe I used as strong adhesive). You will need to completely remove the complete housings from the car to remove the backs so you can redirect the wiring from the backside. What you will want to do is keep your existing bulbs in place for the side running light and turn signal - but on the hot wire for the front most running light/turn signal, you will want to remove the hot wire for the running light and use that to connect to your new bulb's hot positive lead. Then ground the new bulb to the existing brown ground wire. You may need to drill a small hole to feed these wires to the back of the housing to make your connections.

With this set up, your front most running light in your amber lense will now be out but your back one will function, your turn signal will operate and the white lensed bulb in front will now be your running light - this is the traditional euro appearance.

Clear as mud? I guesstimate this will take a couple of hours per side - or an hour and a half if you are quick.

I have the same problem on a 83 SC.

Let see if I can get the schematic. Need to see it before I understand the issue.

This is a good diagram for ’66-’68 911.
It seems identical as the USA version.

I suspect we need a similar diagram for ’70-’73 with the different lights. (’69 is unique and may be different again.)

Best,
Grady

Hi

I don't which country you are in but white front flashers might be permisable for your year. In USA they wre permitted up MY68 I believe. In Europe it was later dependant on country. I run whites on my '72.
