Installing new alternator w/ internal VR
Tired of band aid fixes to my '78 911SC's alternator, I bought a new Bosch model with an internal voltage regulator. Neither my manual or supplied instructions discuss removing the old, external VR.
Leave it in? Pull it out? Need for jumper wires across old connection terminals? Any experience appreciated. Searched, but didn't find anything. |

What kind of manual are you using? The Bentley, Haynes and if I'm not mistaken Wayne's book all cover it.
Take care, O-

tape off the black wire on the back connection to the alternator. Hook the other 3 up and remove the V Regulator because its useless but nice to have on the shelf because you never know...

Conversion to alternator with integrated VR.........
Quote:
Unsafe, Follow above instruction. These are the wire connections from your old alternator: B+ ...........2 red wires D- ...........2 brown wires D+ ..........blue wire DF ..........black wire The new alternator with intergrated VR has only three (3) connections namely: B+ ..........2 red wires D- ...........2 brown wires 61 ...........blue wire black wire is not needed. You could cut or insulate it. Disconnect the three (3) pin connector and remove the VR. You have now completed the conversion to alternator with integrated VR. Tony |

Thank you all so very much! Gonna be warm enough to dive into it tomorrow and just checked my posting.
Now, "Buford", my wife's '78 911T will be back up and running..... until the next problem rears it's ugly head. I guess it's the cost of doing business with and old car. |
