Rear grill fit question and rant....

Has anyone else run into this? I bought a used lid and grill here and had it painted to match my 85. The black grill seems to attach properly on one side but does not have the same shape as the lid on the top side. Its not a warping issue as its not the same shape as the metal tab and leaves a gaping space on the top.
I can cut it I think to fit but just wondering if anyone else has run into this and how did they remedied the problem. I should have known when it was not shipped attached in the first place. Why do people do (sell) this sort of stuff?????. thanks Doug

Are the p/n's the same? is that grill for a 85? Looks like a big gap at the top. Don't think cutting it will help.

I had the same problem.
Don't know why it is that way though. (probably mismatch of years)
Cutting it should help. (Haven't done it myself yet as I am rebuilding, not driving...)
Following this thread to see if anybody knows an answer

I know youŽll need to repaint it but is there any way to stretch it by clamping the sides and with heat stretching it along the length

Heating and stretching is an option but requires repainting (like twistoffat said)
Dremel it, two minutes, perfect fit, no repainting.

I don't know what you mean with wood. The grill is plastic.
Do not dremel you deck lid!

Dremel the plastic part that is touching the metal lid and preventing it from coming further down to a nice fit.

I marked the two locations, you can't miss.
Good luck, don't dremel too much at once, once it's gone, it's gone.
Remove material step by step, you can always remove some more if needed.

(Pic1)The space between the grill and lid is the rubber washer/spacer

(Pic2) No interference like yours

(Pic3) The bottom is flush but there is a rubber washer/spacer installed

IMO if you want a clean install get another good used one in the for sale/ wanted forum.
