Tow Hooks are Expensive!!!

I was searching for tow hooks earlier today and I did not realize how expensive they are! For just a loop of metal it is $100, and you first need to buy the specialized mounting bracket. Am I not looking in the right places? And do I even need to get a specialized mounting bracket? The car in question is a 1989 Carrera 3.2

Have you seen this one from Rothsport? It is only $49 and I have seen it on several cars around here and looks to work great.

How will that mount along with the normal 911 muffler at the back - is there still space?

I got this one from Paragon. A bit of a PITA to bolt on with the muffler in place but the payoff is it acts as a jackpad also.

Tow Eye & Jack Pad, 911 Rear $59.95

made of 100% pure Unobtanium, no doubt. ;)

The problem with all of these engine mount tow hooks is that the idea is for the tow truck to snatch your half buried car out of the gravel trap expeditiously. The tow truck driver doesn't want to have to dig a tunnel in the gravel to get to it. Some race venues even specify a minimum height off the ground, though PCA does not.

The cheapest rear tow hook for a 911 is the factory one, which can easily be removed when not needed. Of course, if you have removed the stock bumper you can't really use that.

Do you know if this can be used with the factory heat exchangers (Carrera) and muffler (or similar like an M & K)?

I dont think the HE's are an issue. I have it installed under a monty can and getting the bolts in from the front are the PITA. The little triangle side walls inhibit a wrench in from the side. not impossible, just a PITA.

Where does that rear tow hook mount?

Things are a lot easier for those of us in the LeMons series. We developed this high tech combination trailer tie down/tow hook.
