How do I open a Carrera AFM?
Can someone point me to a writeup on opening a Motronic air flow meter? I want to check the wear on my traces, but I can't remember how to open the meter and get to the circuit board. I remember seeing a thread here a few years ago which described the process, but now I can't find it.
Thanks for the help, Graham |
search "steve wong" all the AFM and such leads to him eventually. I know what thread you are talking about but can't remember off the top of my head which one it is

This is a 944 but it is the same process. It doesn't seem to want to embed . . . Ian |
Just my own $.02, but wouldn't you rather do the voltage test via 9-volt battery first? If it shows that the afm voltage doesn't spike and is smooth, then you'd save yourself the trouble. And just looking at it might not be helpful without eventually doing the voltage test anyway.
Here's a link: http://www.frwilk.com/the944/afm.htm |
Mine seemed to be sealed with something like silicone caulking. You have to score around the edges and pry the cover free. It takes a bit of pressure to separate them. The 9V battery test will give you an idea of how it's functioning, but if your like me, you have to see what's inside. I would not change anything if it passes the 9V test though.

Thanks rusnak and sully, that 's what I was looking for.
Yes, I will do the voltage test first, though I'm relatively certain mine needs adjusting. |
