Does the AC compressor bracket bolt in place down below?
I removed the compressor, rear condenser, and mounting clips on my '86, covered up the hose and compressor openings.....told my Wife, "No, Dear, I'm not going to just leave the stuff 'lying around'....".
Looking at the mounting bracket for the compressor, there is a long curved part that goes down to left. I can't tell, and lazily, didn't jack the car up; does it bolt in down there, or just up top? Thanks. |
Lift the rear safely, go under there, have a look-see and you'll be rewarded. :)
Removing the bracket is a little tricky because the tin-ware is somewhat in the way. |
Thanks. Just found the "look" on a diagram.... :)

It's easiest if you remove the muffler. I'm not sure if it's even possible otherwise.
The bracket bolts to the engine carrier, just below the tin. |
Yes, I did this a couple years ago. You'll need to remove the muffler and even then it's a little bit of a struggle to get at.

Removal difficulty depends upon the model year, I think. I easily removed the factory compressor bracket on my '83 SC last week without touching the muffler or anything else. Yanked all the hoses and the receiver/dryer in the front left wheel well earlier today. Now just the front condensor and evaporator remain....
