What kind of engine do I have?

Does anyone know what the engine number: 692 101 102 00 1200 goes to? (what type of engine is it and how do I find this out? I have a picture if needed. I have this engine. I think it is a porsche. This # is a cast # (raised...is that the engine #?) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1267590497.jpg

look on the RH side of the support by the fan & shroud

Looks like a Porsche, but a further back pic would help. Almost looks like an early sandcast 911 engine with old, old oil return tubes.

356 engine? Date stamp 40/64 was a time when they may have
still been casting a few. More pictures please. Maybe a really
early 912 engine.

Is this picture better? Would other numbers on the Engine help? Also can Engines be rebuilt and make the numbers on the engine something that it is not?

MarKoBrow 03-03-2010 04:52 AM

A picture of the whole engine would more likely get an answer. Are what looks like the push rod tubes stacked one above the other? Please post a picture of the complete engine

uber 03-03-2010 05:05 AM

More Engine pics.

Here is a picture of the Engine. Hope this helps.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1267625081.jpg

You have that engine, but you don't know what it is?

Do a search for "Carrera 4 cam"

Uber,

You have junk. Sorry, but there are a dozen of those for sale on Craig's list... I see some part on it I might be able to use, though... :D :D :D Shoot me a PM with a price and we'll talk.

-Michael

MarKoBrow 03-03-2010 05:22 AM

A 4 cam , where did you find that?

sc_rufctr 03-03-2010 05:33 AM

OK... I'll play along.

You have a Porsche Carrera 4 cam engine. Probably one of the most revered engines of all time.

Even non Porsche guys have to catch there breath when they see one in the real life.
There are maybe half a dozen guys in the world that can rebuild these competently... Read - Rare and Expensive.

Seriously.... Why are you asking? Is it for sale?

What kind of Junk Engine is this...that's what i'm trying to find out.? Make me an offer...what's junk going for these days?

Jeff Higgins 03-03-2010 05:38 AM

You guys are awfully slow this morning. C'mon - just joined, only four posts and all are right here on this thread, "innocently" asking about a Fuhrman four-cam, "wondering" what he has, first pics are numbers only...

uber 03-03-2010 05:41 AM

I seriously am trying to find out information on this Engine. I have been told various things that are mixed up...from numerous people from it's junk to it's incredibly valuable. It's not junk to me.

Are you serious? That engine is probably worth more than the car your driving.
You need to do some research and start making phone calls to the few specialists left.

Google... "Carrera 4 cam"

djpateman 03-03-2010 05:51 AM

That is indeed a rare and valuable engine. With a 64 date code it is probably one of the last of the engines , and might be 2.0 L displacement. You need to find the serial # on it. I'll try and do some digging as to location.

BTW, euro911sc was just pulling your leg. Sometimes we get guys starting threads that are just trying to get us going on about something rare and valuable, then it turns out be be just a joke. So they will try to tease.

sc_rufctr 03-03-2010 05:53 AM

I did it for you.

Carrera 4 cam - Google Search

sc_rufctr 03-03-2010 05:59 AM

For sale add on this site... 1957 - $127,500
