Another hard start issue
My 86 3.2 was very sluggish cranking over. For 10 seconds or so with one rotation per second of the crank. After it fired up it ran fine but after running for a while with engine warmed up the same would occur upon startup. Battery is a fairly new Optima red top and it is kept on a trickle charger. My wrench diagnosed it as the alternator. Put in a brand new one a few months ago and car ran fine. Now it is back to the exact same issue. Wrench said other parts of electrical were fine at the time. Your thoughts would be appreciated - thanks.

First, double check all connections to the battery are clean and solid, including the ground strap. Then, start the car and use a voltmeter to measure the voltage at the battery--it should read 13.5 volts or a bit more. This will tell you if your charging system, either the alternator or the regulator, is performing properly. Report what you find out.
