Oxidation on transmission and other parts.
How to remove?
I've spent hours searching here and there are a jillion of kinda related threads. I have a long list of cleaners to degrease...but...I seem to not have the search function mastered. (Feel free to link the thread I missed!) What about the oxidation issue? Trans won't fit in my media blast cab. Do I just take it outside and set up a media blast area? If so, once it's clean, how best to keep it that way? I was thinking Cerakote clear? Or a color? And also, the motor is out, what about the other parts, like chain cases and covers and the main case halves? I'm Cerakoting (in house) the fan, fan housing and valve covers, will use the hi temp cure H line, still deciding on colors, but I can easily add other parts to the list if needed.

I used a product named "Corrosion Block" on a 915 trans years ago to treat corrosion. I still have a can in my cabinet, but I don't know how old it is. It's been so long I can't remember the outcome, although I can't dredge up any negative memories. You might see if it's still available and try it on a piece to see how it works for you.
P.S.: just did a search for it on the interwebs & it's still available.

Wow. That’s what I’m going for. I don’t mind using a wire brush I on pipes and bolt tops but I won’t touch the block or tranny. That looks great. Once clean I wonder if a thin rust spray coat would work?

It depends a lot on two things: how corroded / oxidized your transmission is, and how much originality matters to you (and your wallet).
Cerakote looks beautiful, but no one would mistake it for original. I had a customer bring me a mag case 915 last year, and after washing the case, it was as close to perfect as it could have been. Even the plating on the original "mid grip" nuts was largely still there. He insisted on having it powder coated. I was tempted to buy him another case, trade for the original. Made me cry, don't think I am likely to ever see a case as good as that one.

Hmmmm, vapor blasting...and cerakote clear???
Cerakote recommends 80-100 grit media, and not glass or vapor for their colors. I'll have to check out their tech sheet on their clears. Would LOVE to not strip it all down....but, I know, I know, if you want it done right.....down the rabbit hole we go! LOL

Jake, are you talking about complete disassembly of the trans and then blasting? There is an aqaublast company up near Hartford and that method gets remarkable results, but you need NASA-approved cleanup procedures to remove the glass bead remnants.
Home cerakote is a learning process according to my firearm forums. Good luck and post it up!

Well, I have a billion projects that need getting to....(and the 911 is in the way of those) and the car is a driver, last painted in 93 so making it look like the one in that picture, (while it is gorgeous 911 porn LOL) would be like pouring jars of caviar into stale chili, LOL. (I love my car but I'm realistic too!) Soooo, stripping the trans down is something I'd really like to not do. I'd love to get it looking proper without going all Pebble Beach on it. Since the motor is partly apart I'm media blasting and powdercoating the tins in house, and I'll media blast and Cerakote* the fan, housing and valve covers....while I'm there I guess!
I'm guessing that there is no way to do that to the trans without breaking it down. So, I'm looking for some middle ground, or a secret trick of sorts! OF course, I should probably use this opportunity to look at the seals and other things that should be done while it's out. While I'm there..... *I've sprayed a few cars and bikes and other furniture and things over the years so I'm looking forward to the Cerakote process.

Put the tranny on a rolling platform and roll it outside.
Seal up all the holes you don't want water in. Spray it with whatever cleaner you feel good about. Power wash the tranny. It will not make a new gearbox, but it will be 90% close. You will get plenty of spray on yourself too so where something you don't miss.
