If anyone lives in New England, I can't say enough good things about the guys at AutoSport Engineering in Stowe, Mass. The folks at AutoSport specialize in Porsches, they drive Porsches, they race Porsches, and they generally love Porsches. Fair prices, total honesty and integrity, and premium quality. The only downside is that they buy from Automotion instead of Pelican. But I'm working on that !!<br>

I take my car to John Walker, the one man shop. I've never been disappointed in him or his workmanship.
If I didn't take it to him, I'd take my SC to Aker's workshop on Capital Hill. Kyle. |
best in florida
I MUST SAY AFTER HAVING BEEN TO MANY OVER THE YEARS, REDDBONE GARAGE IN ORLANDO IS THE BEST BY FAR.

I really liked John Walker. In my opinion he is fairly priced, and is very good about giving advise and doing the job right. Anyone near Seattle should check him out. For 356 work Akers on Capital Hill in Seattle is unbeatable.

Back in '87 I was in Santa Monica where I bought a cool yellow '73 targa. I had this shop do the PPI and some work on the car. I am trying to remember the name of the shop and the guy. I believe his name was Mark and the shop was pretty big located in an industrial part of town.He was really nice. It was my first 911 and I will always remember him and his shop.
Of course now I try to stay away from shops as much as possible. :) |
John Walker in Seattle (Greenwood Ave N) he has done work on my turbo for me, and every time I got a really great job. He stands behind his work, and he has helped me so many times to with advice etc. Highly recommended!!!!!!

Mike Getzinger of Getzinger Motor Works in Escondido, CA. He and his team (Jorge and Alex) are professional, caring, and truly enjoy the cars they're working on.
In addition, they've graciously educated me about how to drive & treat my dream car. I was an "enthusiastic beginner" when I bought it, and have never treated me with anything but respect (even when I ask the dumbest question!). For interior work, Autos International (ask for Tony Garcia) in Escondido, CA is renowned for their quality and dedication to detail. Cheers! C. |
Living here in central Iowa, I haven't been able to find anyone worth a squat to work on my 71. If anyone knows of a decent wrench within a hundred miles or so of Des Moines, I love to hear about them. Please.... someone help me! Marty

Here in Dallas I have had great service from Louden Motors. This is for both 911's and a BMW 535i. Not cheap by a long shot but they seem to really solve problems and get everything done that they say they will do. I don't recall ever taking anything back for the same problem.

I usually do not trust anyone to work on my 911 or my other cars. However, I must take the time to say some good words about DJ at Don Jackson in Phoenix. Not only do they do gnats ass work, but they are great when it comes time to answer questions. DJ has helped my son, Dan with the repair work on his 944(my old ride that I sold to him). Can you imagine a 20 year old kid with very little mechanical aptitude, replacing a head gasket, a clutch, rebuilding the differential, doing a water pump, and may other things. DJ has taken the time to both explain and more importantly to encourage him to get excited about the Porsche experience. My hats off to everyone at Don Jackson Enterprises.

Good point Victor, John isn't tooled up to deal with anything too recent. Must say have only good things to say about the guys at Weltmeister - Matt once checked out a car for me that was such a dog he couldn't bring himself to charge me. Always good for advice and honest work.

looks like you got plenty of choice over there - lots of good comments.
i love working on cars so mine will only go to someone for the annual service book stamp, and stuff i can't figure out. anyone got any place to rec. here in the uk? preferably near brands hatch, kent. dickie :D |
YOU GUYS!!!!!!!
I have solved numerous problems through everyones help, with special recognition to John Walker and Wayne as well as the many experienced home mechanics who share the joy and sometimes frustration with these cars. When I get in too deep though...........Bob Sanderson of Perfomance Imports in Atlanta has by far the best reputation and integrity. Regards Bob 73.5T:D |

My #1 mechanic is Mr John Brandt in Columbus Ohio, He's really not that great a wrench, but he never overcharges me or rips me off for parts. When he makes a mistake he never fails to fess up and redo the job 'till it's right. (sometimes he needs to redo the job 3 or 4 times too) He works pretty slowly, but that's not such a big deal because I'm his only customer.
I never pay him either, and for some reason, he doesn't mind. I don't understand how this guy stays in business! ;) :D :)  |
Denny Akers, Seattle, has done an outstanding job for me in the past. He is fair, timely and is very helpful in answering all the "stupid" questions that I come up with. Have to say though that I have heard outstanding things about Mr Walker in this area, and will always read his posts here. We are very lucky to have some terrific wrenches to choose from in the northwest.

In answer to the post above: Just like Mr Brandt:
I know someone just like him. He's also thrown away a ring gear doing a clutch job, dropped a spark plug into the valve cover, removed a cam chain before linking up to the new one, used a too small drain pan when changing my oil, forgotten to tighten the valve cover nuts prior to a first drive after a top end rebuild (Nice smoke screen on Rte 25) and once replaced the wrong rear wheel bearing. He also had his neighbor weld in a torsion bar tube which popped loose as soon as the car came off the jack stands. He then had to again remove the engine and hire a 'real' welder to do it right. He's a lot better now with almost twenty years of experience but he still has to do some things over and doesn't always work that fast. When he gets tired or stymied, I give him a beer and make sure that he gets some rest. This weekend, I'm going to have him replace my windshield washer pump. That reminds me...I better go get some beer. |
