Targa seals - why use OEM???

For as long as I've been on this forum (and before on the rennlist, and before on porschefans) I've always heard: don't waste your time with the non-OEM weatherstripping...

Now that I'm finally about to replace them, I got to thinking - my OEM seals have been falling apart ever since I got my car (when it was only a few years old with 30k miles on it). Why would I want to replace with the same seals and watch them fall apart again???

Anybody successfully used the knockoff ones and made them work?

TIA,
Chuck.H

My car is an odd case, because it's a 74 and Porsche doesn't make the Targa seal for that model year anymore, but I've been using a "knockoff" seal specifically made for the older Targas and it is far and away better than what was on the car when I got it. Of course, when I got the car it had a OEM newer model Targa seal that had been cut (hacked) to fit properly, so pretty much anything was going to be better. But I've been very happy with the non-OEM seal I have on it now.

I remember Dan (carsinc) providing a solution to the factory seals that are NLA. Good luck!
