What is this bracket for

Can someone tell me what this bracket is for, its spot welded to the rear deck about where the rear speakers sit.

That is where the luggage retaining strap brackets mount up - it should have a mate on the other side of the rear deck. The rear deck upholstered panel is sandwiched in between them. You should see two similar sheetmetal brackets mounted vertically in the rear passenger footwell.

Rear parcel shelf clips into it I think. Also the mount for luggage strap tie-down

ok so it has no value other than a support for something or tie down?
Its not needed for mounting the vinyl cover on the rear deck?

I thought the rear shelf clipped into it but on second thought I think there is something else there for that purpose. The luggage tie downs bolt to that through the parcel shelf. You can grind it off if you dont want the luggage tie downs but they also help hold the parcel shelf down.

The rear shelf clip holder is actually on the vertical face between the seats. Those in the picture are the luggage hold-down thingies.

My parcel shelf just lays on top of these brackets with no way of connecting or sliding into those brackets. So i guess i could grind them off while im in for these rust repairs.
