Has anyone tried using separate exhausts (no merged muffler, no crossovers) with dual outlets and if so, has there been a drone issue?

I just put together a MagnaFlow muffler dual in/dual out system and have very bad drone between ~1900 and ~2800 rpm.

I'm considering redoing the work using two Magnapack single in/single out mufflers and want to know if anyone has experience with a similar set up.

Thanks!

There are few pics of people using dual mufflers like you describe, do a search as you might be able to find it. When I built mine 10 years ago I used a bassani muffler and it was so damn loud that I welded 8 inch glass packs on each side which decreased the sound two fold and sounded awesome. Also, it is still the best damn muffler I have had in regards to mfi/sound, but it was ugly and heavy.

Mike,

Are you using the restrictors in both CC inserts along with packing in both inserts?

I'm using a single restrictor (the one with a hole in it), along with SS baffle packing, in one of my CC inserts. The other CC insert is just the insert (mostly there for cosmetics) with no restrictor or packing.

For street driving I'm happy with the balance of volume/drone/backpressure that my CC inserts setup is providing.

To answer your question - I don't think you need to be concerned with long term effects of the CC inserts. If anything I'd remove the restrictor off one of your inserts and leave everything else alone.

Those are cool, almost make it look like cookie-cutters in your tips.

I fabricated a dual system as you are describing: 2 mufflers, no crossovers etc...

In fact, I fabricated two systems: one with cats and flowmaster mufflers. The other with just hushpower mufflers.

No droning at any rpm with either system.

Do you have any pictures of your setup? :)

What we have here are:

Patrick Motorsports headers
Flowmaster 842518 - Flowmaster Super 10 Series Mufflers
MagnaFlow 59954 - MagnaFlow Universal Spun Catalytic Converters

Next time I would use offset cats to give a little more room to the cam covers. In the end it was a little loud for long trips, fine for the track...

The other system was easier to assemble, but I have to dig a little more to find pics.

Wow that looks very good!! I love it! What bumpers do you run...any pictures of it finished up?

Cheers,

Actually I ran it w/o a valence

Of course, now I want to hear it! ;) I'm not sure if I have the room for those mufflers...my MagnaFlow cats (same as yours) are mounted farther to the back due to the merge being farther back on the SSIs.

I really like the idea though, so I'll have to put this on the table for my options.

Oh and I understand about the valance. Why hide that awesome bracket?! :)

Cheers,

Well you can - On board with new dual exhaust system, Arroyo Seco, NM on Vimeo

As I said it was a bit loud but may car has essentially zero sound insulation, maybe it would be OK with a more intact body.

As for fitment make templates out of cardboard and get creative!

Oh man that sounds pretty damn good! I hear a lot of road/tire noise to, so with sound deadening that might not be too loud inside...

Your video gets very "interesting" at 3:20!! I'm glad there wasn't a big SMASH sound that accompanied that!

Oh yeah, and I like "The Stig" look you have going too! ;)

I forgot about that, must have hit some black ice ;)

Happily I just ended up high and dry in some sand.

Isn't exhaust droning @ 3000 rpm a minor issue when tracking your car? I'd think max. torque/power within the dB limits would be more important. I don't understand this street-based problem when on a track course. Renew the earplugs.

Have you thought about moving the steering wheel closer? Looks like a bit of a reach for you at times.

Good call!

I had moved the shifter back 2" and the seat back 1" but the steering spacer was not yet installed.

for the people that ordered from carchemistry-
Automobile Performance Products

what all did you purchase? was it worth the price, reduce the drone?
