If used the CCI's with good results

I have tried 5 different exhaust variations on my 3.6L transplant 87 Carrera. I spent alot of money in search of a system with heat and reduced resonance (drone). I tried these CC inserts on exhaust system with S-Car-Go Headers and Custom Fabspeed Mufflers. The CC inserts cut the noise and drone down signifcantly (50% reduction) but did not eliminate the drone. The CC inserts made the exhaust note much more liveable in everyday driving. I definitely noticed a slight decrease in HP above 5K rpm.

Ultimitely, I ended up with a Fabspeed Exhaust System with removable cats. With the cats installed the volume is low, good heat and low levels of resonance. Overall, this has been the best system my needs.

Do you have pics of your system?

Kroggers 08-29-2010 11:03 PM

jaskas, have you tried to just block off one of the outlets on your system to see if that will reduce the volume to an acceptable level?

I haven´t tried that one yet, but i´m affraid that it could destroy the cat on the blocked side...

Why do you think it will damage the cat? I am not an expert, but I can not see how it can get damaged if you block one side...

Jaskas 08-30-2010 01:54 AM

Well well... I suppose that there is no harm trying. Lets see what i come up with.

My plan is to have a block off for the M&K on my 3.6 for when I need it to be quiet...

My guess is that drone is related to a few different factors in exhaust architecture. I had B&B headers feeding a B&B muffler and saw some improvement when I went from 3" exit pipes down to 2.25". Then I had a Flowmaster muffler on the B&B headers and could only mute the drone by capping one outlet (a Campbell's soup can over one tailpipe -- hey, it worked).

Now I have 993 headers and a short-bodied MagnaFlow muffler. It might be slightly louder than the longer-bodied Flowmaster overall, but there isn't a 'drone zone' that I can detect anymore at all.

I skimmed through the thread, but: has anyone else noticed less drone with a MagnaFlow?

Hey Jack- On a Chevy Tahoe I once had, I'd installed a complete Flowmaster cat-back system. It had a drone at 2400 rpm, which was about 80mph towing my trailer. Just for the heck of it, I yanked the big Flowmaster 3 chamber muffler and replaced it with a similar size Magnaflow. Voila, all the drone was gone. Exhaust noise was slightly lower and the tone was nicer too. And there was no difference in power either. Sample size of 1, but it converted me.

So, it has gone from VERY LOUD (as in set off all the car alarms in my office building parking structure).

My M&K 2 in 2 out sets off car alarms too.

It's fun!

I always thought that was the suspension.

Tryed it last night and WHOhoo.... The droning is almost gone. So for next winter projectlist add:

No signifigant powerloss either.

where did you buy that kit?

Cool - good news!

I also considered one of those on one of the outlets, but Ben recommended against it due to the additional weight it will put on the muffler etc - but I still think that is the way to go :)

Jaskas 08-30-2010 10:52 PM

Didn´t buy it yet... only planning at this stage.
The project list for next winter is getting pretty long.

Kroggers 08-30-2010 10:59 PM

Will you be undertaking these projects in Finland or Sweden? Just so I know if I will have a project buddy or not :D

Jaskas 08-30-2010 11:02 PM

In Finland, where I live nowadays...

Kroggers 08-30-2010 11:04 PM

OK, so you are no longer in Sweden!

Where in Finland are you? At the moment we are looking at Espoo or Hyvinkää, but this could change...

Jaskas 08-31-2010 01:28 AM

will continue offtopic via gmail :D ->
