Acceleration pop question.

Recently, upon giving the engine any revs the engine will pop. Not loud like a back fire but noticeable, it only happens when not in gear. I have replaced wires, rotor, cap, plugs and rechecked them all. Any ideas? thanksSmileWavy

Does it "pop" during acceleration, or after your foot is off the gas?

I can think of 3 possibilities:

1) running rich,
2) exhaust leak, or
3) possible broken head stud(s).

Hopefully, it won't be Bachelor #3.

I'd look at a vacuum leak-intake maybe.

The pop will happen after my foot comes off the accelerator, I also hope it is not a head stud. The engine had a complete rebuild (including studs) approx. 22k ago.

That happened to me. It was a chain tensioner, not tensioning...

from the description of your symptoms, I would recommend checking for vacuum leak first. If that checks out OK, then I would move to checking my air/fuel mix.

Looked for a vacuum leak but had no luck, so I decided to remove my much loved SW chip just as a hunch when kidrock mentioned air/fuel mixture and replaced it with the oem. Went for a 20 min. drive and so far so good. Was this the problem? what to you guys think?

Call Steve; that seems like the best route.
