Rear seat underpad
I have just completed stripping the interior getting ready for the floor change.
When I took out the back seats, the under padding was so brittle and stuck that I had to cut it out. Does anyone know where I can find a replacment. It sure looked like the original was custom molded, but that could be just a function of how long it was glued down. Thanks. |

I'm interested in any solutions to this, also. I believe the conforming padding is totally NLA, but there must be some reasonable replacement material.

I went to a high-end audio store and picked up some of their best acoustic insulation. It is about 1/2 inch thick, superlight, and was about $4/ft @ 24" wide. I think it cost me around $45 to do my car, and it removed a lot of the old musty smell in the process.
I can't guarantee you that it is as quiet as a new factory pad would be, but the noise is not offensive. I duct taped all the seams and made very precise cuts, and everything fits perfect. I would say the car lost around 5lbs with this improvement, and I am very happy with it. JA

You might find something like that from one of the many used Porsche parts mecca's here in the states. Places like Parts Heaven, Oklahoma Foreign, Silver Star Recycling, etc., have a steady flow of 911 parts cars, and I would think a part like that is rarely needed. Also, the rear insulation mats were probably the same or compatible on various model/year 911's, so you should be able to find one from a late model 911/964. Or you can do like I did on my previous 911: strip out the whole rear seats, carpet, pads, mats, speaker deck/parcel shelf, etc., and cover the whole area with thin perlon type carpet. It may sound extreme, but how often do you actually use the rear seats? The significant weight savings might be worth it. Plus, if you keep everything in a box in your garage/basement, you can always return it to stock.

Hello
Ohoh ( gremlins in NY ) 1969-1971 NLA since years and payed with big $$$$ Coupe and Targa differ lowering the chances In 72 the sheetmetal was changed to accept the larger trany. The visible difference is the nose between the seats. On old cars was a separate piece to fill that up ( like on 356 ) 72 on preformet mats are still aviable new but to expensive so most buy SC sound deadening and fit it in. Only true collectors or judges will nkow and find out. And yes those parts are preformed and the fit is like a glove. Grüsse |
