beware when changing breather pipes!
i recently had a problem with the engine cutting (1986 3.2) when removing the oil filler cap to check the oil level etc. i was left unable to check the oil level!
this followed the changing of the two breather pipes that enter the oil filler neck (the old ones were cracked). after much head scratching, playing around with mixture etc, three weeks later and a last resort call to charles ivey (in uk)(great service), the problem was traced to a restricter in one of the hoses. it is a small metal funnel type gadget the reduces the diameter of the pipe, without which the engine dies. luckily a still had the old pipe from which i removed the device and inserted into new one. i hope this helps some of you guys! dickie ![]() |

You should have searched the archives here and at Rennlist, the issue was discussed yrs ago, and the solution posted.

Did the earlier cars use a restrictor?
I replaced the oil filler tube to air box hose on my '77 recently, with a non-factory part. Did I leave something out? The car certainly runs better now.

First use of the restrictor was in '81. If it's not there the engine dies when the oil filler cap is removed.
