Why Billy Boat B&B Mufflers Get a Bad Rap

I've read a lot of posts by folks who say that the B&B headers/exchangers are good but the mufflers are poor. Most cite cracks or broken welds around the inlet/outlet pipes, which B&B later addressed by adding support braces.

I recently purchased a used B&B muffler that has the support braces. The inlet/outlet pipes are solid, meanwhile the baffles inside of the muffler apparently have bad/weak welds and can come loose to rattle around inside of the muffler. The one I purchased had 2 loose baffles:

Outside of this, the muffler appears to be in excelent shape. Another vote: B&B muffler quality is poor.

That's a classic example of B&Bs attempt to address droning.

And it's my opinion that part of the muffler cracking problem is not necessarily the muffler casing itself. It's the hefty muffler weight overstressing the flimsy muffler mounting bracket. If they'd reinforce the bracketry, the muffler would stay in place better.

i see nothing changes. It was 1996 and I was shopping for mufflers for my new to me SC at one of our DE's at Bridgehampton. I found a nice B&B can on a carrera so I waited in pit lane to hear idle, take off and at full song sounds. After about half a session it pulled into the pits with a 6x6 square of metal blown out of the middle of the can. I dont think it was even near a weld. piece was gone. asked my new found pcar friends about this. They were not surprised so I figured No B&B for me.Went out and bought the monty. been stoked ever since. A shame that a company can go 14 years and still command a premium price for trash.
