Starter Motor won't work!! Should I buy new or can I just get solenoid???

Hello,

My starter motor just conched out and I have arched a screwdriver across the contacts and it ran but did not engage with the flywheel ( I was under the impression that connecting the contacts would run as well as engage??), but when I turned the key it engaged and turned the engine over. I tried to start the engine later and got nothing, so I fugured I had a bad spot in the solenoid, so I repeated the contact process and when I turned the key, NOTHING. So my question is whether I can find a solenoid I whether I need to be a new starter motor??Also where can I get these things??Should I just moved up to a high torgue starter from tweaks or pelican ( do the sell these??) or is it the same thing??

Thanks,
Ron
