Post DME relay - can it be redesigned w/o relay contacts?

I noticed that '84 thru about '87 Corvettes suffered a similar problem with a poor designed relay switch for the electric cooling fan. The GM fix was to design a solid state switch (no relay contacts) that has eliminated the potential to fail, over-heat the engine and strand the driver. What do you think? Possible aftermarket appeal? Could guarantee it for life. Maybe there is something already out there that's adaptable with a plug to plug pig-tail adapter.
