Question 16x7 Fuchs on a pre 74 911.

I know this is out there somewhere but Im to lazy to go look. Any one have 16x7 fuchs on the pre 74 without 8" flares? If so what tire size are you using in the back? Does it rub?

When I was shopping for my current car I saw many pre-'74s with 16x7s at all four corners. I'm not up on this stuff well enough to advise on proper offsets, etc.... I believe you may just need to be aware of tire sizes. I'm sure someone on this board will help you.

I tried to put a set of 15x7's with 225/50's on a stock 72. The tires stuck out about 1/2" beyond the edge of the fenders. The 15 and 16 7's have the same offset so 225's will probably not fit. I also have a set of 15x7's with 215's on them. I am going to see if they'll fit once some other items get crossed off my "to do" list. These are only 15's but with the same offset it should give some indication if the 16's will work.

While the strippers are over my house cleaning my window molding, I'll work on the wheels!

From what I have gathered in the process of some research, 15x7 and 16x7 work fine on most early cars (there are variations due to the handmade nature of these cars) with 205/50s.

When I bought my '72 it had 15x7 Cookie Cutters with 205/50s - no problems.

Just put on 205/50 SO3s today (on 16x6) to replace SO2s at 205/55 which were rubbing the front edge of the front fenders. 50s did the trick and the rubbing is gone. Other sorting continues . . .

See the other thread about "R" wheels for the complete rundown of the methods of running 225/50s with 7" wheels on early cars.

Good luck to you!

Regards,

Kurt

16X7

I am running 16X7's on my 73 with 205.55.16 Yok Nexus.
Had to roll rear fenders and clearance the front bumper a bit. They make a big difference in the way the car looks and I ran them doing some demo rides at Laguna at sub 2min with no problems.
Cant seem to find performance street tires in 15 anymore. I run 15's in Time Trialing.

Darn, I always thought I'd stuff the old wheels from my turbo on a 72-73 911S if I ever got one. I guess the 225s won't fit in the rear, although I would still want 205s in the front.
