Forum is still sloooow loading.
Still slow loading on my laptop at home since the Pelican server was relocated Not all the time, but it will hang for 10-30 sec + at least a few times a session or more.
I don't go online much at work, but it loads slow there as well. Anyone else still having this problem, or is it possible that it is related to an anti virus/spyware/firewall issue with my computers? Thanks Wayne for having this forum and the continual upgrades that you perform here. |
I have the exact same problem.
|
I have the same experience.
This is new since the server change. If I post, it occasionally takes more than a minute. I may have walked away from the computer and find returned to the ‘Quick Reply’ screen as if I hadn’t posted. I’ll click ‘Post Quick Reply’ again and end up double-posting with the attendant having to ‘Delete’ one post. Pita This is not restricted to posting. The same happens refreshing the main Forum screen and opening or paging a thread. The problem is inconsistent. It does not appear time-of-day related. I can watch my internet connection and it is a delay in Pelican server responding. I have 5 meg DSL, XP, MS Explorer. I have re-booted, searched for any viruses, pop-ups, etc. I have even resorted to only having my com program, virus set low and only Pelican Forum open. To no avail. My connection with Early S is now lightning speed by comparison. :D Amazon dot com searches in milliseconds and ‘One Click’ still operates in fermitoseconds - nat. Best, Grady |

Just made a posting.........Same problem! :( First time ever experiencing speed this slow here on Pelican! Hopefully it will be fixed soon!
|
likewise. if the my new reply to a post won't cycle, i hit the refresh button rather than get the double post page, then it shows the post. quite often i can't even log onto anything pelican. all the other sites still log on ok.
|
Last post = 13 seconds.
Best, Grady |
Ditto on the page loads - also have minor issue with the posts.
could be my side but can't tell- usually get some "token" error so it'll take 2 attempts but to be fair I started seeing this just before the announced move and sometime after I changed to AVIRA. xp / residential lan / verizon fios with 25/25. |
Same here--Grady, you described my experiences perfectly. Things were fine for a couple of days awhile back, but have deteriorated radically--to the point of just logging on becomes frustrating. Again, the problem is inconsistent and doesn't correspond to time of day or day of week.
Wayne, you know we all appreciate this forum and please understand these posts are for your information to help solve the problem. We'd probably all still use it if posts were handled by the Pony Express:D |
Reboot the server.. Im sure its a microsoft product.. just needs a good swift kick. :) Or feed it more RAM.
|
When i'm into say page 3 or 4, sometimes it won't load. I exit and reenter and it works. PowerBook G4.
|
Me too
|
Still experiencing the same issue here. Consistently good page loads and then it hangs......... Like it forgot what it was doing.
|
Same here, slooow at times, especially when posting or replying....
|
Same problems as everyone else. . . Overall I'm spending less time on this forum, because of the frustration. So, maybe it's a good thing - I'll get some actual work done.

No problems here. You need to check your internet filter and tighten your output mounting nuts.:D
|
I get a a lot of waiting on pelican parts, transferring from PP, slow to load pages, etc.
Sometimes no problem at all and then slow for awhile RW |
Yeah, kind of inconsistent.
I'm finding I now am prioritizing which posts I want to read and checking them out first in case I get frustrated with waits and leave. Then sometimes things are rather quick but then arbitrarily b a c k t o s l o w . |
ok, since there are multiple people (like me) experiencing the same problems but some people are not, who is your internet provider if you are? at&t here.
|
Same here. Often very slow. And then not . . .
Ever since I saw Wayne's post about the server move. Ian |
I am using high speed from my cable provider (Shaw).
What anti virus package? I am using ESET. I do not seem to have a problem on any other site, just this one.... |
Shaw for me too. Again no issues on any other sites.
|
OK, that post was quick but my last one two minutes ago was very slow ~30 seconds?
|
Same here again, last post I saw Wayne said he reset the server. I was good for about 4 days after that, it was very fast without the slow load times that happen now and then. But now it can be very slow to load once in a while, just like it used to be.

Qwest DSL
Best, Grady |
same inconsistant slow page loads here with high speed cable broadband isp.
i don't left click on posts anymore, it's just too frustrating. instead, i right click on posts and then click "open in new tab" from the drop down menu.. then i go to any other website i like and all of them load fast and while on the other sites you can see when the pelican tab has finally loaded in the tab bar 30 seconds to a minute later, or not at all... and then other times it works normal. ...doubt it will be fixed as long as there are 959 parts to be bought. |
Same problems, seems worse on my iPhone than with Time Warner Cable at home.
|
Slow enough that sometimes I just give up at times. Glacial.
Sometimes, though, it's virtually instantaneous. Qwest DSL. AOL. |
Very slow intermittently on my end whether at work on a T-1 or at home on Comcast

All of those took less than a 1/2 second.
Are you guys using Internet Explorer or Firefox? I use Firefox and except for an occasional database slowdown that I can actually see on the server, the performance is very good. -Wayne |
Chrome on Rogers Cable in Canada. It is intermittent, Wayne.
