VIN and Paint Code questions
I am contemplating a long-distance purchase of a 73 911.
The VIN is 9113101078, paint code is 144-9-3. I will run a Carfax momentarily; is there anything else (long distance) that I should've thought of, but didn't? |

If you are concerned about authenticity, try contacting PCNA via phone or fax to verify the VIN vs. the paint code vs. the engine number. See if they match.
Your local Porsche dealer may be willing/able to coordinate this for you. Also -- of course -- find somebody in the area to do an independent PPI (pre-purchase inspection) for you. It will cost you about $150 or so, but could save you $thousands if they turn up problems that are not known and/or reported by the seller. Above all, check for three things: (1) RUST! (2) condition of engine and (c) straightness of tub/body i.e. significant accident damage. Good luck,

Orange County PPI
Thanks!
Does anyone have recommendations on the best place in Orange County, CA to get a PPI done? --Also, would a November 72 ('73) 911T be carbureted or injected? I'm told this car is MFI. --My references show 140 hp for this car, but the owner referred to 165hp. Which is correct? |

I may be wrong but I think a 911T 2.4 has caburattors and 130 hp. A 911E 2.4 has injection and 165 hp.

It's a 1973 model, built 11/72. Would that make a difference?

That is the VIN for a USA-spec MFI 'T' model, 154 more coupes were built before the end of Dec. 1972 (close of MFI models) production of USA 'T' models.
That particular paint coding scheme began with 1972 production models, but the '144' code does not appear in the factory service manual.

I think "144" is the code for Gold Metallic.

Orange County is a big place. Two very good shops are Hergesheimer Motorsports (Mark Hergesheimer) in the Irvine/Lake Forest area and Aase Motors (Randall Aase) in the Fullerton/Anaheim area.
