Msd install to 911 1986 need help
 

Hi all

I was search forum but i couldn't get answers,
Please tell me How to install my 911 '86 ?

I bought MSD 6AL-2 ,BLASTER COIL 2, DISTRIBUTER CAP, ROTOR, PLUG AND PLUG WIRE,
My 911 is everything original,
motronic 3.2

An MSD 6AL is not compatible with Motronic AFAIK.

Pelican shows the MSD 6420 as working on all models of 911. I do not know if it will work on your vehicle or not. Double check with your vendor.

Why are you moving to an MSD? What are the symptoms/issues you are attempting to address?

I am thinking may be get more torque ,

I do not know. Most people seem to go this route to replace a permatune (I do not suggest using this product) as the Bosch unit is a bit pricier. It seems to be done more often than not to address an ignition issue.

I would suggest posting on the engine re-build side and get some opinions there. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

I think diminishing weight will get you more bang for your buck initially. There are many older threads on weight reduction techniques.

MSD = Multiple Spark Discharge.

MSD basically causes your spark to discharge more, thereby getting "better" combustion. Or more efficient combustion. Or so they say.

Actually - with your Motronic, that's what it does too - monitors engine efficiency and adjusts fuel and timing to compensate.

I don't think it gives more torque.

MSD is great for old cars as an upgrade. MSD is good in the right application for newer cars. I've installed a MSD coil pack on my wife's R50 cooper, and I see a difference in fuel economy.

From what I've read, MSD is fine in a 3.2 911 if your Bosch motronic brain has kicked the bucket. Otherwise, you'd be better off looking at other ways to improve engine performance - like getting your engine to breathe better by making adjustments on intake or exhaust side of the engine.

But - I'm not an expert.
