Seat shipping a pain?

Been talking to a man about shipping sports seats, he thinks it would be tough to take them apart and ship them. I have to admit, it probably is somewhat expensive, but they should come apart simply enough.
I've no doubt there is experience with this out there.....hint, hint.......

Two bolts hold the backs to the bases...I shipped two seats relatively inexpensively via fed ex in two boxes I bought at UHaul store. In fact I got complete interior except for dash in three boxes if my memory serves correctly.

+1 on the uhaul boxes.
I have shipped stock steats whole and race seats in them. I think they are the Grand Wardrobe boxes. use the metal bar that comes with it to keep the tops from getting crushed.

I was just quoted $100 for shipping for seats from the right side of the country to the center. It seemed pretty reasonable to me, so I paid the guy and am looking forward to installing them when they arrive.

Greyhound package express. The only way to ship big/heavy stuff. Very inexpensive.

No need to take them apart. Use wardrobe boxes as mentioned above and cut down to size. Cut the box down as much as possible to fit within the maximum size dimensions allowed by the carrier before it becomes oversized.

Thanx for the replies...I've forwarded to the prospective seller in an effort to encourage shipment vs. his preferred (I understand that of course) local pickup. Maybe I should just travel the 2K miles, just hit the road and "clean out some carbon".....

With the right routing software, and so many members on pelican, we could probably arrange a 'Pelican Relay' to move big packages inexpensively, based on members daily/weekly commutes.

Anywhere near Nebraska. I have a nice set of sport seats recovered in black vinyl. Looks and feels like leather.
Hand made covers documented on Pelican

I'm stupid seat upholstery

The guy that bought my set specifically wanted them shipped in one box to save on shipping because overweight was cheaper than multiple boxes. I put one seat upside down over the other in sort of an L7 shape and then used a wardrobe box cut down to fit. with extra cardboard taped around any corners that might try to poke through. It must've worked as he did not complain.
