Sunroof not closing all the way

Maybe others have come accross this problem and have a fix. My sunroof closes but fails to pop up in the back to have the sunroof flush with the roof. I have replaced the cables years ago when one broke. I used the 964 parts with some modifications that others have done. No issues until this week. The sunroof did sound a little rough on opening prior to noticing this. Any fixes welcome.

Start by checking the adjustable attachments at the back of the sunroof--make sure they are set high enough--that's free ... oh, and you can check the rubber clutch for perishing, but that's less likely given your above description of the problem.

Given what you described, however, I would suggest removing the sunroof transmission, disassemble, clean, and relube it, and replace the sunroof drive pinion gear (like $15 here at Pelican). No grease is used to lubricate the sunroof cables and the drive gear that moves them (any would ultimately gunk up the system), but the pinion gear will wear out eventually (read many years). Typically, a Golde sunroof with a worn pinion gear will operate just fine until near the end of closure (when resistance increases). At this point, the worn gears simply spins and "pops" across the wire that wraps around the sunroof cable, producing that God-awful, indescribable noise as things grind to a halt. A fresh tranny gear, in contrast, will continue to move the sunroof cable as intended to full closure. Clean the sunroof tracks, etc. while you're at it just for the Hell of it.

Easy fix. Totally DIY.

Thanks. Its been a long time since I worked on it. Just pull the headliner to the sunroof and head from there?

My sunroof had the same look when I purchased the car. Mine turned out to be a missing small bolt on the area where you can adjust the height. It has a special nut with grooves for the adjustment. Also there is a plastic (maybe nylon) triangle that also raises the back of the sunroof. Mine was missing. Not a difficult fix except for the small space for fingers.

With the sunroof closed, pop off the sunroof's headliner and slide it back, you will be able to see what is going on.

Good luck

Pulled the sunroof off and the right side cable guide has become detached due to a few bolts coming undone. Unfortunately, I found everyone except the one that holds the mounting plate of the sunroof onto the cable guide. It is a unique bolt that has a spacer built into it. It looks like the only way they sell these is part of a repair kit that cost $136. Hopefully I can find another bolt of make one up.
