How did this happen?

I took my car to the carwash today so that I could use the big vacuums and get all the little leaves and stuff out of the carpet. I have 8-way power seats so I ran the seats all the way forward so that I could vacuum the rear floorboards, but when I went to return the seats to driving position, I couldn't get the drivers seat to go back all the way. I couldn't see any obvious obstructions, and it would bump forward or back a little at a time, enough so that I could squeeze my 6' frame into the car and drive it home.

Once back in the garage and after unfolding myself, I took the seat out and tested the motor with a spare battery and some leads. The motor works fine in both directions, but if you look at the pictures, the power tracks are off by about 3-4". Makes it kinda hard to bolt in place considering the mounting holes in the car are symetrical.

So how do I get my tracks back to equal position.

Doc,

That may be your problem, are both screws turning when you apply power or only one?

They both turn, and quite easily and without any 'grunchy' noise. Is it possible to disconnect just one side and then power the other one into position?

Disconnect the cable going into the motor and connect it to a cordless drill. Then crank it in forward or reverse to get it to the correct position.

Thanks, I'll try disconnecting one side, then I can use the motor to move the other side into position.
