How rare is this option

When going through the option codes for my targa, I found this one:

018 Sport steering wheel with elevated hub

I pulled the wheel and compared it to another one that I have. The hub is about 1" deeper than normal. That doesn't sound like much, but it is significantly more comfortable to drive the car with the wheel that sticks out further.

Just wondering how rare an option this is?

Ken

I've seen it on several. My '89 Targa has this option, too.

We ordered it on ours, then removed it.

I didn't like it either. Bought it here from someone that didn't tell me it had the inch spacer in it. (He probably didn't know, though). I traded with someone with short arms.

Later SC's had them for more crush space in the event of a frontal collision (DOT regs???), I've heard, but don't know for sure. I don't think it was a option on later cars; standard.

I doubt it's a rare option; it's on my car.

I wouldn't consider M-series option code 018 particularly rare, especially on a US-market Porsche. If you're holding out for more money for your targa, I'd find other supporting evidence.
