Question about the 911 euro (row) model
Hi Everyone,
I looked at an 1985 euro car here in FL, but I'm always skeptical when there is not enough documentation about the car. My question is very simple. How can I identify if the engine is the original european spec with the 10.3:1 compression p/c. Were there any differences btw the US spec 915 and the ROW 915 transmission? Besides the small outside differences, is there anything that I should look for? Thanks a lot.

Since I only have a Euro, I haven't noticed any obvious cosmetic differences in the power train between my car and the North American model. You probably know that the VIN contains ZZZ, that the rear bumpers rubber is a lot smaller, usually there is one (sometimes two) small red fog light(s) under the rear bumper, and a little light (on each side) about a foot forward of the upper door hinge. Those are the only simple ways I know to differentiate ROW and NA models. Hope this helps, Cheers

Find the engine number and post it. It will reveal it's originality.

If the car is stock the euro cars have a side indicator light on above the front wheel arches. On the American cars its positioned at the side of the front blinkers

But I forgot to mention that there are ROW cars that have "detuned" motors similar to the NA models, the cars made for the Japanese market for one and I believe the Aussie . I don't know if the Japanese however, brought in RHD cars or LHD. Many German imports into Japan came into the market only in LHD versions (same as the US)

If you get it, get with Steve at 911chips.com for a chip that will make sure you are ok with the higher compression.

Usually has an external trannie cooler, looks like a small finned oil cooler on the front of the trannie.

I just picked up an 85 Targa ROW. The 930-20 code will also be under the hood in front with the other option codes. Mine has the small bumperettes, side turn signals, transmission cooler, and the composite headlights.

Thanks so much for the wealth of information given to me. I'll do my homework now and hope for the best on this chase for a 911.
Cheers, Leo

Glad to help.
Get a PPI by an independent person before you purchase.
