power mirrors

The up down on the power mirror for the driver's side stopped working, the up down for the passenger side works fine. i don't hear any motor noise. is it safe to say that its not the switch but the wiring to the mirror itself. i looked in the bentley and it appears that is the case.

Switch, wiring, or motor. Start on one end with a meter and check for voltage while switch depressed and work your way through. I would start at whichever end is easiest to access and hope that the problem shows up there.

This is only because if you don't start at easiest point then Ferry's law states it will be the easiest thing and you will have wasted time. Of course, the corollary to Ferry's law states that if you start at the easiest thing that will not be it.

This might help.

Try the change-over switch.

i'll try. this only started to happen after i removed the driver's side door panel to change out the door stays. it is intermittent too cause the other night i got it to work and thought all was fine then tried to adjust the mirror yesterday while driving and it wouldn't work up or down. do you think its more the connection of the switch that i may have disturbed. the switch holder is toast too from the po and he had duct taped the switch into place with what remains of the holder.

Try cleaning the outside mirror switch with some contact cleaner NOT WD40.

You may need to replace the switch holder.

Good luck,

Gerry

I was optimistic that it might be the mirror motors, or connectors, or switch. Turns out it was broken wires in the loom going into the driver's door. It was a MAJOR pain in the rear to fish new wires through there.

Ouch,...I've noticed (only visually) some wear starting within this harness near the door hinges.....that seemes like it would be a pain to undergo.

Best,..good find...
