brake pedal goes soft on startup

I have a 77 911 with boosted brakes and owned for 30 years. I just rebuilt the calipers, new rotors and pads. The pedal is hard when not started. When I start the car the pedal gets much softer, with more travel. I never remember the pedal ever getting this soft before when the car was running. As a matter of fact I always wondered if my booster was working before because the pedal was always hard, started or not. Now it is totally different. Now its like the booster is really working but almost too soft! As soon as I turn the car off, rock hard again. Any ideas? Thanks Jerry

That is the booster working. Before you rebuilt the calipers, the pistons were quite likely sticking and not extending. This would mean that there was not much fluid going into them, so a shorter pedal stroke.

Yes, the booster is definetly working. But I think there may still be air in the system even though the pedal is pretty hard while the car is off and I haven't seen many air bubbles last time I bled it. I took it out this afternoon and the front right brake seems to be grabbing when the car is slowing to a stop? Should I re-bleed the system? What the deal with the grabbing brake? Thanks Jerry

Grabbing evenly or pulling on one side?

The brake is the front right brake- as I slow down the the brake sounds/feels like it it grabbing or knocking slightly, like the rotor is warped, but it is new, or the caliper is loose, but I know I torqued the bolts to 52 lb. Today I am going to re-bleed the front brakes and make sure everything is tight. It is not pulling to that side and is not grabbing evenly. Thanks Jerry
