r car engine

After eight years I got bored waiting to finish the last bit of my r car (a backdated 75 S), the engine. I am building a 2.8 on a boattailed, shuffle pinned and detailed 7 r case with twin plugs etc but recently bought a 2.4 on webers just to get it on the road.

My question is about the 2.4, it has iron cylinders, one of the key costs for my 2.8 build is the prohibitive cost of new nicasil cylinders.

So if I was to use the iron 2.4 cylinders rebored could I fit 2.2 pistons to give me a high comp 2.4 rather than aim at my 2.8??? I could still use my good cases and twin plug heads etc ???

If this works what power would I make potentially

did that make sense??

Years ago when the S stuff was relatively inexpensive the hot lick was 2.4 crank and rods with 2.2S pistons, S heads but your 2.7 heads would do, S cams and this would give 10.3 cr. I recall with the S fuel injection the dyno was showing 220 to 230 horses and the webers were a little less, but they would go.

The high compression 2.4 is a fantastic engine for street and track applications.

btw, the cylinders do not need to be rebored. The 2.2 and 2.4 are the same size (84mm). I would suggest you find the biral cylinders instead of the steel. The steel will not dissipate heat well and you WILL produce more heat at that higher compression ratio.

Thankyou, what is the relative cost difference between 2.4 biral cylinders and 2.8 nicasil. My main driver for this change is the cost differential.

btw I read waynes top engine picks last night and the 2.4 with 2.2 pistons is up there
