Tool chests, NASCAR, track days, and no garage
So the wife LOVES her some NASCAR. I'm more of an F1 guy but after last season at least there’s more than one guy winning races in NASCAR...
So anyway, I'm watching and I realize these guys in the garages have exactly what I need, roll-away tool cabinets with inflatable wheels instead of hard casters! See, I'm garage-less which means my roll-away sits on my balcony and I have to wheel it around the apartment building and down elevators and across carpet to get it anywhere. When I accompany friends to the track with my tools in tow, it's a pain to get the hard casters around the rougher surfaces and over the lips in the cement and onto the trailer etc. My question is in two parts: Does anyone make specific rollaway chests with inflatables rather than casters? Are most caster sizes 'general', do I have a fair shot of finding some inflatables to bolt in place of the casters that are on there now? I've been doing some searches but am not having tons of success. ![]()

Dont forget that you can go to your local Grainger ( http://www.grainger.com ) and get inflatable casters that will bolt on to the bottom of any tool chest. You may have to drill some new holes but it is no big deal.
It is best to order two inflatable castors that swivel and put them at one end and two inflatable castors that dont swivel, this allows you to steer the tool chest by the end that has swivel castors. You could even put a handle on that end if you dont already have one. Other options are cup holders and a big Porsche sticker on the back side.

somebody did a search
we should NOT make fun of people who do searches - we want to promote that! also, there is some community benefit in seeing old threads if they are good ones |

Those expensive wide Snap On tool boxes with masonite work bench tops and large wheels and springed suspension you see race mechanics useing were origonally made for aviation mechanics so they could roll them around the hanger or out to the planes on the tarmac and have a workbench and all their tools right there.
They roll in and out of racecar transporters and out to the paddock very nicely while giving you a work bench very nicely too. |
