fog/defrost knob question
has anyone ever dissected one of the fog or defrost switches from an sc? i want to remove the rubber surround but they have me a bit puzzled. for example when i stand them up so the knob is on top and then put pressure on the rubber to force it down off the lighted face the whole metal pole moves inside. i am afraid to do it now in case i would somehow mess up the connection. i really don't want to cut it if i don't have to.

Try GENTLY prying just the plastic "face" off. Use a jeweler's flat blade driver. I believe they are just pressed into a groove in the rubber.
BTW---What is the goal here?

I've never opened that one up, but on the headlight switch you have to pry the plastic face plate out first. Then the switch inside was held to the rubber with a nut that had to be removed. If you remove the plate it should be more clear how to take it apart. There is a bulb in there so be careful.

I have
In order to remove the metal post, you have to cut them. It is possible to get the symbol out with a small screwdriver, but to get the rubber off, it's only the knife.
