Fan and Fan Shroud / Alter Reg.... I'm stumped

I did a search and found lots of info on painting, polishing powdercoating etc.... but I can't find anything about disassembling the fan from the shroud and the alternator and voltage regulator from the housing. I put a new VR in last summer and I remember it being a ***** it took a bit to get it to fit in but for the life of me I can figure out how to take this stuff apart for cleaning/polishing. Whats the secret?

I like the polished look just fine, but spending weekends polishing that fan is not for me. It stays natural.

After thinking about it for a bit, I may send the housing out to be cleaned and I'll paint it. As for the fan, a good cleaning/buffing and I'll let it patina. Jurys still out.

After reading other threads on this board, I cleaned my fan and housing. To get a nice patina on the fan, simply rub it down with Gibbs penetrating oil. It works real nice. Here's mine after just having it done and now a year later and over 5,700 Km on it.

Done March 2009

And April 2010
