Help in removing head light connetor

I need a little guidance on how to remove the wires attached this head light connector. Looks as though it’s a pressure fit or it has a raised tongue in the brass fitting the wire is attached to. Hope I’m describing this OK? I really do not want to cut the wire if possible.
I need to remove the wires from the gray plastic fitting so I can remove the wires through the head light bucket hole.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks!!!
Rob

usually a 'barb' on the continuous side of the metal connector. If you wiggle something thin & flat (precision screwdriver, terminal removal tool, thick feeler gage) in from the open end (not the end with the wires attached), it should pop out of the connector. Label the wires so you know how they go back in!!

female side of the spade connector is pulled away from the MALE side of the connection (so to speak...)

What they is up with that background rust/heated area?

Best,

Doyle

Good advice although you might not need to label as the pic on this thread will help you put it back together in the right order

I always use a digital camera to capture the 'before' shot.

Thanks gentlemen, I guess I just didn't persevere long enough. I'll try the flat poker and see what happens.
The fender is on my 73 Targa and the passenger side bucket is in far worse shape than the drivers. Both seem to be missing the bottom flange that the trim ring actually screws into. The last guy just made a hole in the finder and screwed the trim ring on that way. In his defense, back when that happened these cars were just another used car. At some time in its life someone tampered with the seals and also did a bondo repair around the bottom outside of the bucket due to the screw being attached in correctly no doubt. I have a little rust there, but looks to be minor..so far. I plan on media blasting to get down to the real metal, so I'll know shortly how bad the rust is. The good news is the rust on this car is isolated to just few situations such as this. The underside of the car, rockers, etc, look great.

Thanks again for the input!
Rob
