And at the end of the day they still have a WRX Mustang, Charger, Camaro, whatever.

Having owned a 3.2 and currently a 1992 911 Turbo, I would say there is no comparison.
Of course my 92 has the G50, so I don't have the older wide spaced 4 speed, so that might make a difference on how much easier it is for me to stay on the power. The 930/911 Turbo was the ultimate 911 for the years it was built in my opinion. |
There is no right answer. It is a matter of personal choice. I had a very nice 88 930 with very tasteful mods. Now I have a very nice 83 SC with very tasteful mods. I would take the NA car every day of the week. I like the sound, response, and general caracteristics of the NA car.
I do not buy into the argument about the turbo costing more $. If you are fortunate enough to find a well taken care of 930, the majority of the money you spend will be performance money:) The 930 certainly catapolted Porsche into another league and for that it deserves its place in auto history. |

About a year ago my SC ran 14.2 for 400m... (A few yards less than 1/4 mile for our US friends) |
930
i have a 78 930 with 425 rwhp but if i am out on saturday night just cruising, i am usually in my daily driver...71 coupe. both cars are set up with almost the same suspension, brakes, etc and both have the 930 four speed. the 930 weighs in at about 2450 pounds and the 71 about 2250. the 71 is normally aspirated...but it is powered by a dart all aluminum 434 sbc roller motor making almost 600 chp and almost as much torque. i will assure you that there are lots of high horsepower modified domestic cars out on saturday night . i am not a track racer but i will give it a go in a straight line from time to time. i get far more attention and thumbs up from car people in the 71 than i do in the 930.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271861492.jpg

That is a beautiful Minerva blue turbo, damn!!

This thread is getting a lot of attention on the turbo forum as well. This is worse than a porsche vs. vette argument. Different strokes for different folks - simple as that.
930's guys lust over this............ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271992116.jpg While as a N/A guy, I think this is perfect http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271992175.jpg Both are great. For me, Less is More. |

my $.02....
I owned an '87 930, blk on blk, all original with very low miles and in excellent condition. At the same time, I also owned my '72 911 T Coupe - in excellent fully sorted condition. I found the '72 much more fun to drive than the 930. Thus I sold the 930....kept the '72.....and have never looked back. |
All kidding aside (yes the top 10 list was for fun only) the 911 and 930 are completely different cars designed for different venues. I like auto-x which is ruled by cars like the 914-6 and early light 911. Driver's Ed is also fun but more fun with more power. They all have a place and are great fun when used for the intended purpose. Screaming Weber's at 6500rpm or an open waste gate - it's all good!
