"Targa" script finish question
What metal is the targa script on the bar? I would like to Polish the face
|
Its black plastic. You could always paint it
|
I am almost certain it is metal as I have tried to remove it - are you sure?
|
My 1980 SC has script made of aluminum.
|
They are made out of pot metal, and break very easy.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271779665.jpg

i havent removed mine either but just to be safe I checked it with a small magnet. Didnīt stick and it sure feels like plastic. Mineī an 87 model so I donīt know if the earlier ones had metal but I donīt think so

Painting it would probably be the more sensible option then |
I just removed / refinished my Targa bar and removed these and cleaned them up...they are definitiely made of aluminum on my 1980.

I try not to be too much of a spelling fanatic, even though I did time in Catholic schools. |
So anyone seen the metal one polished?

Polished Targa Script
Did the script on my 83SC about 4 years ago - took a pic tonight to show:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1271816927.jpg Mine started out painted flat black. I started sanding with ~ 220 grit and brought it down to ~2,000. From there I went to a buffing wheel and compound. The surface has dulled slightly over the years - I'm sure I could bring it back to full luster with some rubbing compound, just haven't had the ambition to get out the toothbrush to clean the excess aftermath. I like the look and it was a pretty easy project. Best of luck, Gordo |
I like mine the original black, matching the bar.
In fact, on my current car, I painted the 'targa' black, it was silver. |
Thanks all - I do appreciate the input
