*Urgent Help/Ideas Please*

Hi Everyone,
I'm back in the UK and starting my car after 3 months lack of use has, unsurprisingly, revealed a problem or two. The car started on the first turn, ran fine, then after about 15 mins it started and has remained idling very erratically, like stalling to 3,000 revs. Nonetheless, I drove 200 miles in it as its fine when accelerating.
Also, the fan belt has gone loose too. The car was totally fine before I left it, and usually is OK after long periods of lack of use.
I need it as my everyday car, too.
Ideas please. I've barely started to look as it's dark raining. I'll tighten the fan belt tomorrow, but the idling....?
Mixture problems, fuel dist. ????
I'm only here for a week, but could do with it running!
TIA

Sounds like bad gas and/or water condensation leaving water in the gas. Either drain the gas out of the tank, or if there wasn't all that much gas in to start with, fill the tank up with good gas and some gas line antifreeze which should absorb the water.

Water in petrol from condensation most likely. As it's playing up when warm also check cyl head temp sensor and its connection, also check usual suspects like distributor, plugs and cables.

Just an after thought, as you had the car parked outside for a while could some water have got into the passenger compartment? If so, try checking the carpet for dampness around your DME unit, this could also cause problems.
Good luck.

Make sure that you have a minimum of six shims on the fan belt. This is super-vital, and often misunderstood...

See this for more details:

Just realised your car is a 77 so no DME obviously.
If your certain fuel, plug and connnections ok try checking your "cold start device"/automatic choke . Break a leg and into the lion's mouth.
